Build Strong Community by Strengthening Families

By Mary Atkinson of Lancaster, SC

Summer is fast approaching and Family Promise is rolling along with full steam. Monthly meetings may seem mundane to some, but for me they are exciting.

Family Promise is on a ride of its life. With humble beginnings in September it has reached a modest middle ground. There is a lot to do and plenty of time to do it right.

A pace has been set for Family Promise’s progress and we, on the committees, can only go with the flow and course that God has put us on.

Prayers have been said all along and now we are seeing some graces unfold before our eyes.

The faith community that is already involved and those who are still to be involved are committing to a wonderful fulfillment of brotherhood toward its fellow man, woman and child.

Family Promise is not so well known in the community yet, but with a positive attitude and able people with loving hearts to spread the word we will.

This is a ministry that has an abundance of benefits for those on the giving and receiving ends.

Remember Family Promise of  Lancaster County is “helping families without homes by providing a helping hand up not a handout.”

We build a community by strengthening families.

Family Promise has Web site

Family Promise is moving along quite nicely in its seventh month of this journey. Much progress in all areas has been achieved and the latest accomplishment is the Family Promise of Lancaster County Web site.

Most people in America are able to connect to the Web and I’m sure the same is true for Lancaster County citizens.

Family Promise wants to make it easy for people to learn about and  understand what Family Promise is and what it will mean for Lancaster County.

The Family Promise Web site,  www.familypromiselancaster.org is loaded with information about the national nonprofit organization, its origin, national homeless statistics and Lancaster County’s Family Promise efforts. Also on the Web site are details of how you or your group or organization can help Family Promise of Lancaster County reach out to its families in need of permanent housing.

The list has many opportunities to help. You can volunteer and bring compassion, or maybe you have a specific item that you can donate or maybe give a monetary donation.

Family Promise of Lancaster County is a  nonprofit organization that will help families without homes become homeowners again.

In our effort to reach out to Lancaster County we would like to present our information to you.

A list of clubs, groups and associations was provided by the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce. Letters have been sent to many who were on the list.

If your club, group or association has not received a letter and you would like to have a brief presentation for your members, please contact me and a letter will be sent immediately to you. The site, www.familypromiselancaster.org, was created by Louie Prete of Lancaster.
